Last Week’s show was about putting FLV files on your wordpress site. Today we go back one step and answer the question, “How do you make an FLV file?”
Currently I use Camtasia Studio. It’s a great program if you’re looking to get into video without spending thousands of dollars. It does screen captures, picture in picture, live video editing, and more. It’s $300.
If you don’t have that kind of budget, you might check out a piece of software that I’ve used on the past call FLV producer. It’s $97 and it makes putting video on your website a piece of cake. This is from the people who make the FLV plugin, so you could spend half of what you would for Camtasia and be able to have FLV files on your websites in minutes (granted Camtasia studio has many other output options than FLV).
While flash may have a “death sentence” due to Apple’s moves, one can’t argue that its still on about 90% of all computers and for now is a great way to put video on your website until the HTML 5 equivalent is accepted an implemented across the Internet.

Today I’ve got two tools that make it easy to put an FLV file on your website.
FLV Plugin
The FLV plugin is $27 from the people who create the FLV producer (more on that next week). Their website says you download the plugin, upload it to wordpress and activate it, and you can post FLV files in 10 seconds. The added bons of the FLV plugin is that it allows you to choose from 11 different players (although their website doesn’t show those images). This is form the same company that create WPwishlist.
FLV Embed
This is a free plugin for wordpress by Yaosan Yeo that allows you to input an flv very easy as well (without as many bells and whistles). You simple put [flv: url to flv width height] of your files. You get one player, and their website does say you can even put youtube videos on your site using this player. I’ve tried, and it works. You can have the player with and without a preview image. If you don’t mind the “plain” gray player (it gives you volume, full screen, stop, pause options) and you are on a budget, look for “FLV embed” in the WordPress Plugins directory.
Don’t forget domain names are going up soon at Godaddy.com use the godaddy coupon code cooler10 to get your domain name for $7.49 using the coupon code cooler10. This is good on new and renewals.

A few weeks ago I told you about emember and wordpress affiliate plugin. They were about 40 bucks each and if you were looking for simple that allowed you to use the plugins on multiple sites, then you were in business.
I recently purchase WP wishlist for a website and while it is robust (it provides tools to roll out materials over time, as well as tools to stop people from sharing their login and password), I found their interface a little klunky, and because it is so robust, there is a bit of a learning curve. They do a good job with documentation, and videos, so I’m not complaining.

I recently found magic members plugin (which like wishlist is $97) and it seems to have all the features of wishlist (and it works with wp-ecomerce – a great shopping cart plugin). You can have multiple membership levels, unlimited coupons, and more importantly (from what I’ve seen in the videos) a more user friendly interface. It has all the usual membership features, plus they have a Sequential Course Delivery System which allws you to control what your members see (some call this a drip-feed). This feature allows you to create delays (in days) before your members see certain content or articles. Sequential Course Delivery System allows you to develop your content and make it available to your members on a weekly or monthly basis. The Sequential Course Delivery System component helps make Magic Members a very powerful WordPress membership plug-in.
This also goes for the magic affiliate plugin. This goes for $79 and has a phenomenal interface both for the affiliate manager and the affiliate. If you are looking for an affiliate program, and wondered how to integrate idevaffilaite into your worpdress, this plugin has just as much power (5 tier program) and is already integrated (and works with e-commerce and magic members). It’s quite the one two punch.
WP Wishlist Insider
Even if you don’t use wp wishlist, you may want to check out their insider website where they have articles and insights on running a memberhsip site, and a great forum on wordpress and wordpress plugins. Find it at http://insider.wishlistproducts.com/
Free Online Password Vault
If your login and passwords are in firefox, you may want to look into passpack.com a free service (up to 50 login/passwords) to keep track of all your logins in one place that is available online. It has SERIOUS security and makes you type a sentence to login (which you can turn off if you don’t want that much security). You can also share passwords with groups (great for IT staffs) if you wish. It’s free to start, and mot much if you want to go with a premium version.Check it out at www.passpack.com
