One of the things I love about helping people with their WordPress sites is I get to see what plugins they are using. Today I came across a new premium wordpress plugin that automatically rates your “on page” seo. Great for anyone who does seo and especially for local consultants to use for local businesses. It’s call Measure My SEO.  It’s from Jason Fladlien and Wison Mattos (don’t worry I had never heard of them before either).

What this plugin does is it scores you on things that boost SEO. Such as:

Is your keyword in your Meta Tag?

Is your keyword in your Meta Description tag?

Is your keyword phrase in your meta keyword tag?

Is your keyword density matching a level that you get to set.

Is your keyword in an H1 tag along with H2 and H3?

Is your keyword phrase in Strong, bold, italic, or em tags?

Is your keyword image in the alt text of an image?

This tools automatically checks your post as you type it (at an interval you set) and then scores your post. You can also have it checked any time you want by clicking on the SEO check button. There is a  video that shows everything and it’s only a few minutes long. You can check it out at measuremyseo.com and the plugin is $49.

It’s SEOPressor but Less Expensive

I talked about SEOPressor in the past. It’s a very cool SEO Plugin that does many of the same things that Measure My SEO does automatically. However, SEOPressor costs $47 for a single license and $97 for an unlimited version. Measure My SEO is $49 and you can use it on any domain that you personally own. Sure it won’t bold my keywords for me, or mark them with italics, but I can do that for myself to save 50 bucks.

Another Premium WordPress SEO Plugin is Inbound Writer

There is a free version of Inbound writer that you can use, but it will tag your article with a link to their website at the end. This is if you use their plugin. If you don’t want that you can create a free account on their website and have their system optimize eight documents per month. If you want unlimted critiques, it’s 19.95 and I assume that takes the tag off your article. This does provide more posts that Scribe (which only gives 15 for $18, but has keyword tools as well). Combined with Keyword Winner for a One TWO SEO Knock Out

I previously reported on Keyword winner premium plugin that analyzes Keywords for traffic and competition in minutes. You could use this tool to find good keywords, and then use measure my SEO to make sure you are getting the most out of these keywords. I see where Keyword Winner is $47, but here is a spoiler alert. Dimdim.com Adds More Cool Features

Dimdim.com came out with a new version of their system that allows you to hold a webinar for free. If you want to have up to 50 people (you can do up to 20 for free) its only 25 bucks a month (compared to the $60+ I was spending at webex.com ) Here are the cool things I like about dimdim.com

A way to put a widget on the site for people to register for the webinar.You can also collect information about attendants (optional). This was the feature I needed, and I love it.

You can record your webinar and make it available to hear/see afterwards.

They still only allow three people to have microphones, but they do have the ability to use a telephone line as well.

I just know I’m enjoying the savings.

Sitepal Adds the Ability to Turn Yourself into a Cartoon

Sitepal.com recently added a feature where you can upload a picture of yourself, record and upload your voice, and their system turns you into a cartoon that looks real. The feature is called “photo face” and it allows you to upload an image of yourself and then you cut out your face and it will animate it. It’s pretty cool. I would suggest a picture of you where you are staring straight forward for best results. In the picture on the left, I went and traced around my head to make sure only my head was copied into sitepal.

When I played with the preview, I can see where my picture was not the best for this example, but it still worked. When my photo faced version of me would watch the cursor, I looked a little high.

I know what you’re thinking, “Why not just use a video?” Well you can update what you say by phone. You can also have the character as a lead generator where it collects email addresses, and it can also be programmed to answer frequently asked questions (much like those pop out virtual assistants everyone has now that show up when you close the browser). These feature make it a very powerful tool, and shows you are on the edge of technology. If you don’t want to animate yourself, you can also pick from any of there many characters. You can go over and play with the demo at their site. it’s fun.

This is a pretty cool system if you are looking to make a quick presentation using photos. Best of all its free. Here is a sample

While I’m not a huge fan of building an entire site with nothing but flash (as Google can’t read flash) if you are looking for an easy way to build a website (for free, but they will put some branding on it) you might want to check out www.wix.com

You can also build myspace layouts for free, present and prmote music. To remove the branding there is a fee. If you are looking to create a quick great looking website (that you will drive traffic to) you might want to check it out.

This weeks web tools is great if you are looking for some feedback on a project. It’s free, and it seems to have a nice community of marketers, designers and developers who provide feedback on your advertisement, logo, flash presentation, web design. Best part is free.

Each reviewer has a reputation score. You can improve your Reputation Score by posting and reviewing concepts. It sounds liek a great place to learn and improve your deisgns.

Today I want to thank Marcus Couch of the Scene Zine Podcast at www.thescenezine.com for sending in this link. It’s kind of a membership site tool, but its really designed for people looking to educate.

The site is www.prfessor.com (that’s not a typo) and for $49 bucks a month you get a hosted, turn-key solution for anyone looking to create courses, and charge money (or not ) for them. You can literally create your University, training center, or certification program in about a half hour.

Set up unlimited courses, for unlimited students and create tests and exams for the course. Set up payments easily with paypal or use your authorize.net account. You can set up multiple “programs” (kind of like different school in colleges).

You can be the dean and the teacher, or recruit professors and give them a whatever percent of the classes they teach. You can create intelligent quizzes in a snap.

You have 1 gig of file storage, and 30 gigs of transfer per month. If you have a bunch of videos, I’m not sure if 1 gig would last. I wonder if using something like the S3 Media player would allow you to copy and paste code so storage wouldn’t be a concern.

So what’s the catch? Well if I had one thing to complain it’s that the default theme of the site is kind of plain. It’s not ugly, but it’s not “wow.” Are you stuck? No. You can upload your logo to help. If you need more help to update the look of the website you are going to put out some cash to have the look customized (to the tune of about $1000). My thought is I will build the site and once I get some students I will pay to have it customized.

It really looks easy as the tools automatically create your course catalog, FAQ page, contact us page, and instructor recruiter page and you can drop in a logo and brand your site in seconds. It’s only $49 bucks a month.

Today I have a video to show off a software that I am really excited about. I’ve wanted a software like this for years, and I’m so glad this exists. It’s called Artisteer, and it allows you to create a wordpress theme from scratch in minutes.

You can customize every aspect of your worpdress theme. Choose your colors, your layout, the location of items like categories, etc, your header, your buttons, your menus, and on and on and on…

In making a video for the podcast, I typically try to keep them under 5 minutes. This is an almost impossible feat as this software has so many features (but I gave it a shot). The best part of this software is its price. You can download a trial version for free. If you like (and how can you not if you work in WordPress), you can buy the “home” version for $49. There is also standard version that regularly sells for $149 (NOTE: I ACCIDENTALLY SAY $129 in the video it’s normally $149) and you can buy that version (during this introductory offer for $99.95 The standard version will have the ability to output to Joomla, and drupal (in the future), it also has a library of textures and glares, and you can export to CodeCharge Studio. If you’re not working in WordPress it also exports as XHTML+CSS (so you can work with Dreamweaver, etc).

According to their FAQ, when it comes to selling themes created with this product, “Yes, as long as you do not include Artisteer photo objects within your header (Header -> Foreground Photo), as those objects are licensed from a 3rd party only for your own use. You may re-distribute any other designs you create, including those with Artisteer header background photos (Header -> Background) and your own photo objects.”

KompoZer Tutorial Videos

I’ve never heard of Kompozer, but it appears to be a very powerful free open source website creation tool. It evens has the ability to make pages using CSS.  While free is always welcome, who wants to go through the learning curve (especially for software so powerful). Enter Kompozer tutorials. These videos are from Jay Jennings (regular listeners and readers know I’m a big Jay Jennings Fan), and once again Jay has put out a great product that delivers high quality without requiring you to break the piggy bank. The whole set of videos is 20 bucks. Sure beats reading an outdated book.  Check it out at kompozervideos.com

Contest Machine

ContestMachine is geared to making contests and giveaways easy.  The tool is like survey monkey in that we let you collect responses.  But that’s just the beginning.  When your giveaway ends, contest creator allows you to pick as many winners for you as prizes, at the push of a button.  It automatically sends the winners emails asking to verify their entries and supply their mailing addresses, and then lets you know if a winner hasn’t responded so you can pick another.  Contest creator gives you a widget to embed in your website, and a hosted page you can link to.  It manages the tedium or organizing a contest so you can run them without issue.  When I contacted the company they stated, “Many of our users have received many more entries and experienced much less headache by using our system. We also do things like allow only one entry per user — optimizations that aren’t possible with comment systems on blogs (what most of our customers used before switching to us).”

It sounds cool and there is a free version.  This version does not allow you to export the entries or have access to emails (you can also only have two contests per month). The next level is 9 bucks a month that allows 10 contests a month (and the ability to use it to grow your email list).  You can also sign up for a yearly payment option which gives you 50 contests per month with unlimited submissions.

Viral PDF Tool

If you have affiliates you may want to look into this tool. It allows you to make brandable ebooks in pdfs.  You put some code into your word document, and later the viral pdf tools replace those tools with the affiliate links. So an affiliate opens the branding tool, point it at the pdf, enter their information into the prompts and “poof” the same ebook now has their affiliate links in the pdf.

Dimdim.com Reviewed

I found a free tool that allows you to do this. It’s a www.dimdim.com

Dim Dim is interesting. I allows you to share your desktop, white board, and presentations. It is open source and it takes no time to sign up (it runs on their server).

Here is what I liked:
You don’t need a conference call. If your visitors have a microphone you can communicate on the site.
It’s Free.
The visitor doesn’t have to install any software
No monthly fee

Here is what I didn’t like:
While you can schedule meetings in advance, there is no registration tool for attendees to sign up. I used eventbrite.com and then took the email addresses and invite the attendees as the meeting was started.

I understand that a box comes up and asks for permission for the flash (of the system) to use your microphone. The box is somewhat confusing to the “not so technical” person.

On the free version only three participants can have a microphone. You can have 20 participants, but only three can have a microphone. As a leader, you can “pass” the microphone around the room. You can add/delete the ability to use audio, chat, or to kick people out. There is even a “Waiting room” if you want to see who is attending before you allow them into the meeting.

Now I spent about 10 minutes getting to know dimdim.com, and I guess some of this is “operator error” they do have resources to allow you to learn how to use it.  At one point “something” change my audio input from “line” to “Mic” (and I plug into my line in, so I was troubleshooting why I couldn’t be heard).

My summary is its an ok device if you the presenter and the attendee is fairly technical. I will be keeping my eye on it. You can get more people in the room by purchasing a level up for $99 a year.

The following the smartdd follows up via email to make sure the download was successful. The best part of this software is there is a free version for those who only have a few items. Ticket Desk Pro
Another cool script I am now using is Ticket Desk Pro. This is an amazing piece of software for the price (less than 20 bucks when I purchased  it). This has a ticketing system, a F.A.Q. feature, a “frequent responses” feature, and a LIVE HELP option. I really figured it was too good to be true till I saw it on the Download Guard site (and I know Sam wouldn’t use it if it wasn’t quality). Check it out at ticketdeskpro.com They are using an interesting script that raises the price by a nickel (.05) every time someone purchases the script. Very interesting. NEW NETWORKING TOOLS

Entrecard.com is a networking tool where you upload a 125X125 jpg file into the system and you can “Drop” your card on blogs and people. The more people drop cards at your site the more you can earn. You can even sell credits (um, ok I don’t know about that), but it is easy to transfer your credits to another person. It looks interesting. See my entrecard in my sidebar >>>>>

NEW SEARCH ENGINE IN BETA “Search Me”
This new search engine provides results as a graphic. Interesting, and it makes my previous points that the first impression of your site should be a good one. Check out the video at www.searchme.com

I use Easy Banner Pro for my podcastclicks.com websites. Its a banner exchange site for podcasters. What I like about Easy Banner Pro is the ability to add categories, the ability to have free exchanges (completely customizable) as well as sell impressions.

I see Ad Amanager Pro on my Musicianscooler.com/links site. I use this to organize my ads from all my affilaite sites like commission junction (www.cj.com) and others. This way I can get stats on all my advertising. Also this year I’ve had a few advertisers buy some advertising on the site. I never planned on this, but its very easy to set up and it uses paypal. You can actually start your own ad network with this script.

There are free versions of Link Up Gold, and Easy Banner (if you don’t need all the features). The best thing about phpwebscripts.com is the out of this world customer service I’ve received from them. I’ve had emails answered on all sorts of days that I never would’ve expected a return (Thanksgiving for example), and I’ve never had to wait for a script to be installed.

The other tool I’m talking about this week is Arelis from Axandra.com I use this tool to create our LINKS SECTION every week. I put in the URLs, add a category and publish (it does the rest). If I want I can use it to send out link exchange requests, as well as help me find sites to link with (and who my competitors is link to) and more. It can be ordered separately, or combined with the IBP software (Internet Business Promoter). I may talk about this software in the future. It helps find keywords, it automates submitting your website to search engines (and reminds you if you try to spam them.

I needed an easy way to track my time that didn’t have me doing a bunch of double entry. I have tried a few, but this is one that does what I want to do. It’s called Standard Time, and its $150 (again no monthly fee). It is flexible in the way I can charge my clients, and I love the fact that I can have an icon in the system tray and when I need to start billing people for my time its a few clicks away.

It also has a desktop and mobile version so I can track meetings, phone calls, etc on my smart phone, and then synchronize with my desktop when I get home. It does have an invoicing feature, and you can track customer payments, but to me its strength is in its time tracking (it does tie in with quickbooks if you are using it).

I think we all understand split testing (or A/B testing) where you build two versions of your landing page, and then a script rotates the two (this is often used with an adsense program).

Well what if you want to test your landing page and test multiple variables. After all with an A/B test you may not know what made the difference for the bettter conversion. I found this tool that states “Split Test Accelerator is 10 times faster than ordinary split testing (and 10 times faster than the “full-factorial” testing you get with Google’s Website Optimizer — if you use it according to their instructions). I watched a video at their site and its seems very, very powerful.

You can have multiple variables, multiple placements, and then send the page some traffic. STA tracks what works and what does not. Then when you think you’ve tested enough, you can take the best results and build the ultimate converting page.
At $891 it is something sounds painful on your wallet (they do have a multi-payment option of $297 a month for three months). However, if you could boost your conversion rate as much as the site boasts, it would pay for itself over time (quickly based on your product sale amount).
